tected, as it were, from another crossing over. This relation is illustrated in the diagram (fig. 7). If crossing over occurs at some point between two pairs of factors a and b indicated on the diagram, the next crossing over point of the chromosome would, if it occurred at all, lie at some distance away, rather than near by. This possibility can be tested in a case where several known points are present in a pair of chromosomes. If in such a case we determine how often crossing over occurs between A and a in general and then determine how often it occurs between A and a in those cases where it is known to have taken place between a and b, we find an enormous decrease in the number of times it occurs between A and a when at the same time it has occurred between a and b. In general one may say that crossing over at any level interferes with crossing over in the region of each side of that level. Conclusions. The chromosomes not only furnish a mechanistic explanation of Mendelian heredity, but in the case of Non-disjunction and in the case of the point by point correspondence between the Linkage Groups and the chromosomes, furnish a verifiable explanation of the results. In the case of Crossing-over and of Interference the chromosomes give us the only objective explanation of the results that has been as yet offered.

Comparative micro-Raman study of the Nakhla and Vaca Muerta meteorites

A comprehensive micro-Raman spectroscopic analysis of the Nakhla and Vaca Muerta meteorites is reported. The major and minor mineral components were identified from comparison with mineralogical standards and literature databases. The compositions of pyroxenes and olivines were obtained using only this technique and correlation data between band parameters and the chemical composition of refere...

Systematics and Evaluation of Meteorite Classification

Classification of meteorites is largely based on their mineralogical and petrographic characteristics and their whole-rock chemical and O-isotopic compositions. According to the currently used classification scheme, meteorites are divided into chondrites, primitive achondrites, and achondrites. There are 15 chondrite groups, including 8 carbonaceous (CI, CM, CO, CV, CK, CR, CH, CB), 3 ordinary ...

Weathering of Ordinary Chondrites from the Atacama Desert, Chile: First Results from Mössbauer Spectroscopy

The lunar meteorites have valuable informations for understanding the evolution of the Moon’s crust, because each meteorite may potentially provide a new insight into the thermal history of unexplored regions of the Moon. In spite of their scientific interests, chronological studies of Very-Low-Ti (VLT) basaltic meteorites have not be well understood, since the most VLT basalt meteorites are br...

بررسی ترکیب شیمیایی و کانی‌شناسی مارن‌های سازند میشان در شمال اهواز برای استفاده به عنوان مواد اولیه آجرپزی

This study focuses on the mineralogical and chemical characterization of Mishan Formation marls from North East Ahvaz for brick production. Mineralogical and Geochemical studies were performed by XRD and XRF methods. Major minerals in marls are quartz, calcite, dolomite and the minor minerals are orthoclase, chlorite, and muscovite. Illite and montmorillonite are also present as minor minerals ...

On the Original-Igneous Source of Martian Fines

The composition of the silicate portion of Martian regolith fines indicates derivation of the fines from mafic to ultramafic igneous rocks, probably rich in pyroxene. Rock types similar in chemical and mineralogical composition include terrestrial Archean basalts and certain achondrite meteorites. If these igneous rocks weathered nearly isochemically, the nontronitic clays proposed earlier as a...

What Were the Major Factors That Controlled Mineralogical Similarities and Differences of Basaltic, Lherzolitic and Clinopyroxenitic Martian Meteorites within Each Group?

Introduction: Twelve Martian meteorites that have been recovered so far are classified into five groups (basalt, lherzolite, clinopyroxenite, dunite, or-thopyroxenite) mainly from petrology and chemistry [e.g., 1]. Among them, the dunite and orthopyroxenite groups consist of only one meteorite, respectively (dunite: Chassigny, orthopyroxenite: ALH84001). The basalt group is the largest group an...
